Family Wild Walks are back!

Get the latest on our regular monthly events by joining the Family Wild Walks WhatsApp group, or find the next one on our Outdoor People Events Page

What is a Family Wild Walk?

Join our chief explorer, Cath, and encourage your kids to be explorers as they help us lead an adventure to discover how wild central Hackney really is!

These walks are 1 - 2 hours wandering from one playground to another playground, via some interesting places, seeing what we see, playing, observing nature, sharing ideas about how to get outdoors and maybe building some new memories and friends!

Perfect for all ages and buggy-friendly, these walks are a great way to see our home, Hackney, in a new way.

Yes, these are FREE

The events are FREE, thanks to everyone who has ever bought anything from the Outdoor People Shop and Schools Shop, or joined our events and donated. Also, thanks to Hackney Council and the It's Great Out There fund, which has funded the development of the maps.

All we ask is that you take a friend (and/or some children!) on another walk - do one, teach one and pass it on!

If you would like to donate to support future walks, you can do so here:

When and Where?

All the walks will be listed on our Outdoor People Events Page, and we are using Humanitix as our ticketing platform, as they allow us to accept donations and have themselves donated over £10 million to children's charities since they were founded.

In 2026, we have decided that most of our walks will end at an adventure playground or with an invitation to another adventure. That may be a museum, a community garden, or another wild space.

Every walk should leave us planning the next steps!

These are the walks planned for the rest of the year:

9 May 2026 Mabley Green to Hackney Marsh - Kite flying (wind dependent!), bird watching, boat spotting and an award-winning adventure playground!
13 June 2026 Newington Green & Shakespeare Walk Adventure playground - Bug hunts, flowers and an award-winning adventure playground!
11 July 2026 Woodberry Down and West Reservoir - and go on to see the East Reservoir, the Castle Climbing Centre and Garden, or a swim for the adventurous (and over-14s)
8 August 2026 Haggerston to Hoxton plus Pearson St Adventure Playground - the best public playground (IMHO), Ancient churches, community gardens and an award-winning adventure playground!
12 September 2026 Finsbury Park Parklands Walk - and go on to see the East Reservoir, the Castle Climbing Centre and Garden, or a swim for the adventurous (and over-14s)
10 October 2026 Hoxton and Shoreditch Park Adventure Playground - the playful joy of the most urban bit of Hackney!
14 November 2026 Victoria Park and Mile End - arguably the best parks in East London!
12 December 2026 Hackney Downs to Hackney Central - new playgrounds, ancient fossils, churchyards and early winter solstice party at Outdoor People!
9 January 2027 Abney Park Cemetery and Stoke Newington - mysterious, play-filled and the best music video location...
13 February 2027 Clapton Common to Walthamstow Marshes - go deeply rural without leaving Zone 2! Water birds, cows, tree climbing!
