Work with us!

Whether you are looking for your first exciting Social Enterprise role, want to volunteer or are offering to work with our board, if you have passion, skills and drive to work in a small team making a real difference, we want to hear from you.

All posts ask for a CV (tailored to the Job Description) and a covering email telling us why you would be great for the job.

We don't need perfection, and we actively want to recruit from our East London community. A love of the outdoors and a strong willingness to learn is the basic requirement.

We expect you to have done your research on us and that you recognise we are a small social enterprise That means you'll get to work across far more areas than in a big firm, have more opportunity to have a go at many roles, but also we all need to muck in so everyone covers the shop sometimes or helps at Family Camping.

We offer a competitive package and if you'd like to know more you can always get in touch.

9th June 2022

The closing date for these positions is the 7th July, and interviews will be on Monday 11th July pm, Tuesday 12th July late afternoon and evening and Tuesday 19th July in Hackney.

If you would like an informal chat please do contact Cath on cath@outdoorpeople.org.uk or on WhatsApp on 07813879179.

Outdoor People: Shop Worker

Are you the hero Shop Worker we need?

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill shop assistant role. We need an all-around shop hero to work in our Community Shop in the heart of Hackney, someone with a passion for the outdoors, who can offer advice and assistance both to first-time campers and people setting off on a round-the-world trip, as well as grandmas wanting to take grandchildren to the park.

Ideally, you will know the difference between Gore-Tex and a basic DWR, and the relative merits of down versus synthetic insulation in your sleeping bags. Great handwriting and an eye for an attractive display will help. Knowledge of the green spaces of London and beyond, as well as experience of some adventurous exploring, will be an asset. But mostly, you will care for customers and take great pride in giving good service to everyone.

Contract: 15 hours per week, potential to increase – shifts will include one day over the weekend; and could include some bank holidays.
Salary: London Living Wage (£11.05 per hour) up to £25k per annum pro rata dependent on experience and skills
Place of work: 352a Mare Street, Hackney, E8 1HR
Contract: Permanent

Outdoor People: Events and Administration Coordinator

Are you the Events Coordinator and Administrator we need to make our events stand out?

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill admin and events role. We need an all-around hero to work across our social enterprise, bringing a series of events to life.

The events range from in-store community sessions to arranging a camping holiday for families on low incomes. The job is varied, always interesting, and will involve promotion and marketing; liaising with families, funders and the Outdoor People team, as well as pitching in to help with online conferences and TeachMeets reaching primary schools across the UK and beyond.

All require attention to detail and prioritisation. A love of a good spreadsheet and the ability to communicate with a team working remotely is essential. A love of scheduling and diary management would be helpful too.

Hours: 16 hours per week, potential to increase – shifts could include some bank holidays and weekends.

Salary: Competitive, depending on experience and skills.

Place of work: Home (with occasional travel to Hackney or Kent).

Contract: Temporary for 8 months, option to extend subject to funding and successful delivery of key events.

Outdoor People: Garment Repair Worker

Are you the hero Garment Repair Worker we need?

We are looking for an experienced garment repair worker, able to alter and mend outdoor clothing, backpacks and other items. If you don’t have access to an industrial sewing machine we can book sessions for you.

This isn’t your run-of-the-mill role. We are launching a ‘nearly new’ range to provide more affordable outdoor gear so more people can get outdoors more often. This range will be created by repairing minor defects in post-warranty items donated by our suppliers.

Ideally, you will be passionate about repairs, able to change a zip and invisibly mend buttonholes and seams. You should have some experience working with coated fabrics and technical materials.

If you are also passionate about the outdoors, creative and solutions focussed, we want to hear from you.

Hours: 8 hours per week, flexible.

Salary: London Living Wage (£11.05 per hour) up to £25k per annum pro-rata depending on experience and skills.

Place of work: Home (items to be repaired will be dropped off on days of work, and picked up at the end of the week).

Contract: 6 months initially, with review and option to extend.
