On a slightly damp Sunday morning just before Christmas we gathered for a little adventure....
Netil market is usually bustling with life but we all got there before everything opened, and then set off to find the little wild spaces right in the heart of Hackney.
First stop the tiny pocket park just south of Netil and to the east of Broadway Market. The swings are always a winner...
But so is walking the dog...
No one was terribly sure if these logs were left to play on or to edge the green space, but they were great fun for balancing.
Even walking along the road lets us spot the tiny weeds... and chat about footwear, barriers and to have a go at walking across a road without holding a hand.
The steaming compost was fascinating...
as were the sheep (sorry i missed actually taking a picture of them!!)
who needs playgrounds when there are piles of wood chip?? The smell was amazing!
Then back to Netil for snacks..
A minute earlier this was piled high with cinnamon buns kindly donated by Yeast, the bakery next door to Netil Market. They were delicious. Which is why i couldn't get a picture.
We played some games.
and decided what from 2019 we wanted to throw away (Boris, Trump, Tottenham Hotspur and Homework... yes we are in Hackney).
We shared some memories, some hopes and some mulled apple juice...
And put together our trees for the future both metaphorical and actual.
"One of the nicest days of the year" said one adventurer. Can't say finer than that.
And tomorrow it gets lighter!
