These really couldn't be easier. Wrap around the tree/post/car/whatever, loop and hook. The standard ropes are static rope, which can take up to 200kg, and are each 2.4m long.
If you will be using a tree for any length of time consider the tree-friendly straps, as they'll be kinder to the bark. They're also longer by about 1.5m.
