Springtime Family Wild Walks

Hackney Wild Walks, Outdoor Families, Outdoor Family Camping -

Springtime Family Wild Walks

Following the government's latest guidance on emerging from national lockdown, we are excited to announce that we will be restarting our Family Wild Walks!

Wild Walks – ‘adventures for children to take their adults on’ – are short walks of about 2km (taking about 2 hours), perfect for 3-7 year olds.

As a community, every two weeks, we go on adventures exploring our local green spaces in Hackney and nearby! The aim is to create an environment where children feel they have permission to play outdoors, connect with nature and have fun!

We will bring some snacks for the Wild Walks, but we recommend you bring some water and snacks too! Also don't forget to bring weather-appropriate and waterproof clothing. We can provide families with waterproof shoes and clothing, if you do not own any!

Note: All Wild Walks are subject to latest government guidelines. The Wild Walks will be cancelled if the guidelines change. Since numbers are limited, you and your family book a place on the Wild Walk.

If you would like to join any of our Wild Walks please fill in this form, or email beth@outdoorpeople.org.uk, and Beth - our Community Coordinator - will book you and your family in. It's free!

Family Wild Walks is part of the Outdoor Families programme. A year-round programme, connecting families from across London with nature, gradually increasing their range of experiences – from weekend walks exploring local green spaces, through to a weekend camp in the countryside.

Would you like to feel more confident going outdoors with your family? Would you like to meet other families in your community and discover new green spaces?

If you are struggling to get outdoors regularly with your children, we would love to hear from you!

It is important to us that our Wild Walks are safe, inclusive and nourishing for everyone. We've thought long and hard as to how best to revive our Wild Walks. Steps we are taking to ensure our Wild Walks are safe and comply with Covid-19 guidelines:

  • Our Wild Walks will host a maximum of 15 people, including our volunteers and leaders.
  • You will need to fill in a form to register your interest to join a Wild Walk and provide your details for Test & Tracing reasons. You will receive confirmation that you are registered for the upcoming Wild Walk within 48 hours of receipt of the form.
  • We ask that you and your family only join the walks if you can confirm there is no one in your family or bubble that is clinically vulnerable or clinically extremely vulnerable and that you have no plans to visit anyone who is shielding within two weeks following the Wild Walk.
  • Our Wild Walk Leader will provide you with hand sanitiser to use on arrival, before eating and after touching play equipment and other surfaces.
  • Everyone must commit to remaining physically distant during the walk and other activities.
  • We recommend everyone avoids touching their face.
  • Should anyone on the walk becomes unwell within 14 days, we ask you notify us and we will notify all other participants who should contact NHS Test and Trace. In the event of this, we will request all participants to self-isolate for 14 days.
  • We ask you to agree to not attend the Wild Walk if there is anyone in your family, household or bubble who is experiencing Covid-like symptoms in the few days prior to the Wild Walk.
