Weighing a little over 1KG, the Synmat 7LW is built to tick a couple of specific boxes very well. It does weigh a large amount for a blow up mattress but for a product that doesn't use down, its R-value of 4.8 is astounding. At 7cm thick it is also an incredibly comfortable blow up mattress. Being almost 2m long and 65cm wide, this will provide all the ground coverage you need to be protected from the cold in the night.
Made to be a great companion on winter expeditions. With an integrated pump you wont need to worry about carrying a pump or getting moisture inside the mat. The Valve system is made of two non-protruding openings, one for inflation the other for deflation. This system is incredibly robust and durable and also makes inflation and deflation of the mat very simple, no double roll-ups to get out the last of the air.
With the 160g/qm Texped-loft microfiber laminated to both the upper and lower sides of the mat, you know that there is a solid insulation barrier(2 in fact) between you and the ground. being laminated on, you wont have the insulation pool in some spots like happens in a down filled air-mat and also improves the durability and long lasting nature of the set-up.
The mat also has a brilliant construction of its baffles, long i-baffles down the length of the mat means you wont have any baffles that end up unheated that can accidentally be rolled onto. The cross beams at the top and bottom I have found to be excellent for maintaining the comfortable structure of the mat too. With an airtight laminate on the outside, that is also impervious to degradation, you know that the whole mat is rated to last an exceptionally long time of hard use. the Laminate is also very comfortable on the skin and is slip-resistant so you shouldn't be sliding off on those sad occasional camps where you have to be at an angle.
Exped have a reputation for creating products to a high standard and also not skimping on their responsibilities to the environment. The Synmat 7 LW being a synthetic product is made from plastic and uses carbon to produce, but they have signed up to myclimate so that the carbon created from production and disposal at the end of its lifetime is offset through carbon offset schemes. There will be a barcode on the side of your mat that tells you which scheme your mat has helped.
